Alex Dunk is an Independent Financial Advisor here at Acumen Financial Partnership. After graduating from Durham University in 2007 with a degree in Business Finance, Alex joined the NHS where he spent the first few years working in both Commissioning and Contracting Departments. Here, we look at how this experience set him up for a career in finance at Acumen Financial Partnership.

From the NHS to Acumen

Alex decided to change his career path after working for the NHS. He found the financial aspect of the roles rewarding but wanted a client facing career. After hearing about the opportunities at Acumen, Alex jumped at the chance to join our team and over the years his knowledge has flourished, both academically and personally. Working alongside experienced colleagues gave Alex a firm understanding of the role and made the transition from trainee to fully fledged independent financial advisor swift and easy.

Completing the trainee financial advisor course

Alex Dunk has been with Acumen Financial for 4 years, completing his trainee financial advisor course. The course consisted of both academic study and client orientated work and after passing his compulsory exams, Alex received a diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. He has now been appointed Independent Financial Adviser here at Acumen.

One of the first clients Alex dealt with after gaining his qualification is thoroughly pleased with the service she received from both Alex and Acumen.

Life as an Independent financial advisor

Alex believes the experience he has gained from his traineeship has given him the knowledge and confidence he needed to adapt to his role naturally, working with solicitors, accountants and the UK’s top financial managers.

The experience I gained during training has made the step up to Adviser status very natural and I have taken to my new role very quickly. I’ve already worked extensively with solicitors, accountants and some of the UK’s top investment managers and I’m now looking forward to building on these relationships, adding value and making a positive difference to our clients’ financial plans.

Originally from Staffordshire, Alex now lives in Burscough with his wife, where he has taken on multiple DIY projects. Alex now dedicates his time to an active social life, travelling, visits to the theatre and the gym.
