Summer Investment Event Round-Up

For those of you who missed our June summer investment event, here is a recap of how the day went down.

The event was held in our brand new offices where we started off with some refreshments and networking while enjoying some relaxing tunes from Brendan O’Rourke.

We were lucky enough to have some top industry speakers who covered different topics regarding investment and the just ended referendum. Here are some of the topics covered;

‘Why do people invest the way they do?’

Alex Wheelan DipPFS is the Business Development Manager, Vanguard Asset Management UK. He
is responsible for business development with financial planners and Wealth Managers. Alex has more than 17 years of Intermediary sales experience and currently provides educational support in Investment Management, Business consultancy and behavioural finance.

‘How not to outlive your retirement savings’

Jake Wellesley-Smith is the Business Development for Private Clients & Charities, Standard Life Wealth. He is responsible for Standard Life Wealth’s private client and charity business development in the North of England. Prior to this, Jake worked for Border Asset Management and held positions at Lombard Street Research, eChron AB and PWS Holdings.

‘How Brexit and the US election will affect us’

John Wyn-Evans is the head of investment strategy at Investec Wealth and investment. He is responsible for developing and marketing the firm’s investment strategy to IW&I’s network of Investment Managers and the IFA community. John’s extensive career has seen him enjoy spells with Smith New Court, Lehman Brothers, Nomura and Troy Asset Management.

‘Commercial Property Investments

Paul Merchant is the Equity Research Analyst at Quilter Cheviot. He began his career at the Bank of England in 1972, before moving into fund management for Grieveson, Grant stockbrokers, Reliance Mutual, Swiss Life and New Zealand Insurance – where he was General Manager for UK and European Investment. He has been an Equity Research Analyst at Quilter Cheviot for 15 years.

Extracting value from your business

Andy Lee is the Marketing director of Fortress Management. He has over 30 years’ experience in the UK and offshore marketplace, having worked for HSBC, EFG, Zurich and Fortress. Fortress specialise in providing trust services, tax planning, company administration and legal services both in the UK and internationally.

‘The current state of the investment market’

Ben Gutteridge is the Investment Director & Head of Fund Research, Brewin Dolphin. He is responsible for collective recommendations at Brewin Dolphin, focusing on the US, Emerging Markets & Global Equity, Fixed Income and Alternative and Structured Investments.
