I have worked in Financial Services since graduating in 1981, initially for two major insurance companies but despite being offered a number of exciting management opportunities, my aim was always to work directly with clients. I took the first step towards this by heading up a financial services venture for a firm of solicitors followed by a partnership with an independent financial adviser. I then joined David Roberts and Partners, one of the leading Insurance Brokers in the North West and spent a number of years working with them as a consultant.

I had nurtured the idea for a firm which would genuinely enhance the financial wellbeing and life experience of its clients long before establishing Acumen Financial Partnership Ltd in 2006. I set out to provide a service based on a genuine determination to give the best possible advice in clear, plain English, offer real value for money and maintain an open door policy with access to a team of highly trained committed and caring advisers. There is a very high level of trust placed in a financial planner and the service we provide has parallels to the family doctor of old. We are a listening ear and a practical guide, acting decisively when it is right to do so and bringing you the reassurance that you are in good hands. We will call in the right specialists when needed and keep in regular contact with our clients to make sure that your financial plans are kept on track as the months and years go by. We respect our clients and bring what we think of as traditional “family values” to the work we do.

I now specialise in tailor made investment, retirement and wealth transfer plans for clients. I am qualified as a Pensions Specialist and regularly advise on Final Salary /Public Sector pension schemes. I do a great deal of work with professional partnerships and owner managed businesses including advising on property purchase via Small Self-Administered Schemes and Self Invested Pension Plans.

I live in Aughton, West Lancashire with my husband Simon, two sons, Andrew and Daniel and our four dogs. Simon and I are regularly walkers around the coast and mountains of North Wales and we  often joined by Daniel, our younger son. I am a keen horse rider and I also enjoy music and theatre as well as cooking and spending time with my family and friends.

After graduating from Sheffield University in 1997, I joined Barclays Bank Plc. I worked my way through a number of different roles before attaining the position of Financial Planning Manager advising clients on Investment, Pensions, and Protection, in the West Lancashire area.

I moved into the independent world in 2004 working as an adviser for Potter and Minnis Ltd before joining Acumen in 2009.

Having been with Acumen for over 3 years I have taken pride in helping the company go from strength to strength based on the underlying ethos of providing quality advice in a clear and straightforward manner. Financial Planning can seem a daunting and complex subject with ever changing regulations and ever increasing options. It is my passion to steer clients through the process giving them a clear and understandable solution to fit their individual needs. It is important to acknowledge that financial planning is not something that can be covered in one meeting. My aim is to provide help and on-going advice to clients throughout their entire financial journey, whatever age they may be.

I offer advice over a wide range of areas, including Investments, Pensions, Protection and Mortgages, with a lot of my time spent with company directors on more complex pension planning cases.

I live in Birkdale with my wife Katie and two young boys, Harry and Freddie, with whom I spend as much time as I possibly can. I am a keen gym goer, golfer and F1 fan.

After joining the Acumen team in 2007 I gained the Diploma in Financial Planning and advanced my financial management experience specialising in pensions and investments.

A mother of two I’ve always been very much a ‘people person’ and understanding clients’ concerns and circumstances is key to everything I do.

I’m very aware that each client has unique requirements so being a good listener is invaluable – if you prefer or need to discuss your finances at home, I will come to you.

Leaving school in 1989 at the age of 16, I started work for one of the main High Street banks, a career choice that proved ideal. I made my way up through a series of different roles, finding each more challenging and interesting than the last and after 15 years, in 2004, I was promoted to Financial Planning Manager working in the Liverpool and Chester area.

The responsibility for providing Private Banking Clients with the sort of detailed advice on their investments, business and family life assurance protection and of course, their retirement plans was something I found immensely satisfying. Developing the sort of personal relationships with those clients, making a difference to them and then working with them over the years has provided me with some very happy memories.

Acumen has a clear commitment to individual, personal attention and this recognises that no two clients are the same. Working with such a dedicated and supportive team means that I am able to offer the kind of service I have always aimed to provide.

I have lived in Formby for most of my life and it is now home to me, my wife Sue and our three children and not forgetting our cockapoo, Archie. Family life is very important to me but I do also like to find time to go on long beach walks with Archie and also going to watch my beloved Liverpool FC.

My 30-year career in the Financial Services Industry began in 1984, working with Royal Life Insurance in Liverpool. Over the course of an 11-year tenure, I worked in both the Life and Pensions New Business departments, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience in both areas.

I joined the Acumen Team in 2015, having gained over 15 years’ experience in the Financial Service Industry.

I began my career as a Personal Assistant with Griffiths & Armour in 1999 and after 5 years moved on to become a Financial Planning Administrator, specialising in pensions, investments and protection insurance. To help me with my new role I began studying for the Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate in Financial Planning, which I completed in November 2009. Wishing to progress further in my career and gain more experience, I was fortunate enough to be offered a position with Acumen as a Paraplanner assisting the Financial Advisers to produce the relevant research, recommendations and reports for our clients.

After 12 months with Acumen I was given the opportunity to train as a Financial Adviser, working with clients face-to-face. After graduating from Durham University in 2007 with a degree in Business Finance, I joined the NHS where I spent the first few years working in the Commissioning Department at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. From this initial role I progressed to a position at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital in the Contracts and Performance Department.

I particularly enjoyed the financial aspect of my role in the NHS but began to realise that I wanted a more people orientated career so when a friend mentioned that there was a vacancy for a Trainee Financial Adviser at Acumen Financial Partnership I leapt at the opportunity to apply.

I had to complete a very comprehensive, 4 year training programme with Acumen during which time, as well as academic study, I had the benefit of working for clients alongside my highly experienced colleagues. After passing all the compulsory exams, I was awarded my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and was appointed as an Independent Financial Adviser in 2016.

The experience I gained during training has made the step up to Adviser status very natural and I have taken to my new role very quickly.  I’ve already worked extensively with solicitors, accountants and some of the UK’s top investment managers and I’m now looking forward to building on these relationships, adding value and making a positive difference to our clients’ financial plans.

Originally from Staffordshire, I now live in Burscough with my wife Jenny and enjoy an active social life. Over the last few years I have dedicated most of my time to working on our house, and where possible going to the gym. When I’m not at the gym or practicing my handiwork at home I enjoy travelling and the theatre.

I joined Acumen in August 2006 as a member of the administration team. As part of my role, I liaise with our Advisers arranging for comparative illustrations for a variety of investment, life assurance and pension plans and I also deal with the processing of many of the ISA, life assurance, pension and annuity applications we receive. This also means that I take an active role in ensuring that our clients are kept up-to-date with the progress we are making for them – it will often be me that calls our clients to keep in touch and let them know that everything is progressing as it should be.

We are frequently able to negotiate better terms e.g. for annuities, so our clients benefit from the best rates available in the market. We have a streamlined process to achieve these improved results in the shortest time meaning that our clients get their payments with the minimum fuss.

We pride ourselves on the comprehensive service we offer and present the alternatives in a clear, easy to understand format and I have been actively involved in how Acumen has developed this aspect of our business.
